Short-Staffed Grillology Announces Plan to Pay New Hires in Chicken Tenders

Grillology, a staple of the first-year community at the University of Virginia, has turned to drastic measures to address their staffing shortage. The company announced Friday that it would offer one free meal per shift as compensation for students interested in working for the company.
Many students have critiqued the new policy, calling it “exploitative” and referring to the role as “undercompensated.” However, the opportunity hasn’t been without its proponents. First-year student Jake, a prospective McIntire student, said “it never hurts to boost my résumé.”
The company hopes this innovative approach to employment will lead to continued growth beyond the first floor O-Hill food court. “The Cavalier Daily recently ranked us one of Charlottesville’s top three places to order a disappointing meal,” the company’s CEO said in a statement. “We hope this creative decision to not pay our employees will help maintain the company’s reputation of poor service and mediocre food.”
