UVA Now Officially A Swim & Dive School After Latest Basketball Loss

After a disappointing loss against Wake Forest dropped the Cavaliers men’s basketball team to 2-3 in ACC play, winless in true road games, and in a position where making the NCAA tournament now seems unlikely, it’s time for Virginia to pivot to being a swim and dive school.
Sure, the basketball team won a national championship in 2019. But the women’s swim and dive team won national championships in 2021, 2022, and 2023 and are currently ranked #1 in the country for 2024. Rather than playing at a slow pace, UVA’s swimmers try to go fast. And superstars like Gretchen Walsh win at the highest level.
Once spring sports season rolls around, Virginia can also add “baseball school” and “lacrosse school” to its list of superlatives. But it might be time to cross basketball off that list.
