The University announced a four-year ban on campus fraternity Oozma Kappa, after an emotional hearing Saturday morning revealed that the frat had been forcing pledges to attend Virginia football games and stay for all four quarters.

Initially, it seemed like the fraternity would be able to get off with just minor sanctions. However, once the judge in the case was required to sit and watch the duration of an entire UVA football game, the tides turned. She described the mandated game attendance as “cruel, unusual, and detrimental to the well-being of each Oozma Kappa pledge.”

The fraternity’s president attempted to counter by arguing that “actually, the team wasn’t that bad last year,” but his case was rebuffed by pledges who testified anonymously that the team was “horrible” and “unwatchable.”
